Sustainable Building with VEKA AG

Veka AG is one of the world’s leading producers of systems for plastic doors and windows. Veka’s profiles for doors and windows are characterized by high quality insulation.

The longterm economic growth activated a pronounced building boom in Azerbaijan, especially in and around the capital Baku. In spite of the relatively hot climate temperatures drop below the freezing point in winter. The thermal insulation of windows and doors of the existing and newly constructed buildings is very inefficient. This is the Achilles’ heel of energetic and energy-efficient construction. The missing or inadequate qualification of craftsmen additionally complicates energetic building strategies. Inefficient insulation causes avoidable financial burdens to property owners and tenants which are intensified by rising energy costs. Besides the economic costs the inadequate application of insulation results in high CO2 emissions and pollutes the environment because of high usage of fossil fuels for heating and cooling.

Veka and the building and architecture University of Baku conduct quality-oriented trainings for Azerbaijani craftsmen. These take place in a model shop for window manufacturers and technicians in Baku, established by Veka. Azerbaijani architects, builders and scientists receive trainings for energetic building in cooperation with the German Society for Sustainable Building (DGNB) and the University of Baku. In addition, the target groups will take part in two study trips to Germany where they learn about insulation technology on the building site as well as sustainable building projects which consider economic, ecologic and social criteria in planning and implementation.

WiN=WiN effects

The PPP-project promotes a sustainable and energetic building architecture. This reduces the maintenance costs of real estate and reduces the environmentally harmful usage of fossil fuels.

At the same time the demand for energy-efficient and high quality Veka windows and doors increases. The training of local craftsmen enables the appropriate and quality-oriented use of Veka systems in Azerbaijan.
